Adventures in the Woodland: A Bone Foraging Day

Published on 11 December 2022 at 22:44

Not every day is a bone day! This past Saturday, I set out to a local woodland, eager to do some bone foraging. Unfortunately, I underestimated the amount of leaf litter on the ground, which made the search much more challenging than I had anticipated. Sometimes, my forgetful brain overlooks these little details!

Despite this setback, my foraging buddy, Dora, and I enjoyed a nice walk. She had a blast chasing after all sorts of intriguing scents and tried to lead me through many narrow gaps that were far too small for me. At one point, I even ended up leaving my hat stuck in the trees!

We did come across signs of animal activity, including a couple of feather mounts, some rabbit fur, and plenty of burrows. However, we didn’t find any actual remains. The thick layer of leaves made spotting anything difficult, especially since this area typically offers up rabbit and bird bones. We did manage to find a few species of fungi, but not much else.I

n the end, Dora and I enjoyed the beauty of the winter landscape during our woodland stroll. We plan to return for bone foraging once the leaves have cleared and the ground is easier to navigate.
