Last month, I experienced an amazing event—the Kent Magical Market in Faversham. It was a day filled with creativity, warmth, and community. As I wandered through the market, surrounded by talented artisans and creators, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed.I
mposter syndrome is that nagging voice in the back of our minds telling us that we’re not good enough, that we don’t belong, or that our achievements are just a fluke. Being at the market today, I saw firsthand the incredible work of others—beautiful crafts, stunning artwork, and innovative designs. Everyone was so lovely and welcoming, but still, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I didn’t quite belong among them.
Everyone at the market was so talented, and it made me question my own abilities. But then I realized something important: imposter syndrome is something that affects us all, no matter how experienced or accomplished we might be. It’s a common experience to feel like a fraud when we’re surrounded by people we admire.
Despite these feelings, I reminded myself that being in the company of such talented individuals isn’t a sign that I don’t belong; it’s proof that I do. Everyone starts somewhere, and today, I chose to embrace the discomfort and acknowledge my worth. I realized that the creative community thrives on diversity of skill and experience, and that includes me.
Imposter syndrome can be a formidable barrier, but it’s crucial to remember that it doesn’t define us. Our worth is not determined by our self-doubt. Instead, it’s defined by our willingness to show up, to create, and to connect with others. At the Kent Magical Market, I was surrounded by a supportive community that lifted each other up, and that’s something truly magical.
So, if you ever feel overwhelmed or like you don’t belong, remember that you do. Your talents, your perspective, and your creativity are valuable. The world needs what you have to offer, and you are just as worthy as anyone else in your community. Let’s continue to support each other and recognize that we all have a place at the table, no matter how talented those around us may seem.
Let’s keep pushing through, creating, and proving to ourselves that we do belong. Today was a reminder of that for me, and I hope it can be a reminder for you too.
